We've done well over here in the mountains this winter -- the woodstove has performed admirably, and the pile of oak, poplar and sycamore is still hefty enough to heat our house for another four months or so, but ...

ENOUGH ALREADY! I WANT SPRING!

I want to get our garden planted, strawberry plants in the ground and sorghum seed in the field!

GAH!

(Maybe the past seven years in South Carolina and Florida spoiled me on the weather. At least there are no hurricanes here.)

Lexington, KY SantaCon Info!!

OK!
Gather your Elves.
Feed your Reindeer.
Santa is on the move!

Lexington's First Annual SantaCon will hereby take place on Dec. 15th!!

All Santas meet at 5:00pm @ Hyatt Lobby Bar in Civic Center

WHAT TO BRING:
*CASH for drinks and tips
*TIP YOUR BARTENDERS! Santa tips well.
*TWO $1 dollar bills for the bus
*A Santa suit.
*Santa dresses for all occasions. It's December. Smart Santas wear multiple costume layers. Dress to maximize merriment whether singing christmas carols in the snow, or swinging from a stripper pole.
*Comfortable shoes - because Rudolph got drunk again and can't cart your sorry ass around.
Optional, but Fun:
*Santafication tools (to make others into Santas).
*An unmarked drinking vessel (paper bag/camelbak) to supplement bar drinks.
*Reindeer Games
*Bring toys and gifts to hand out (Naughty AND Nice!)
*Mistletoe
*Lube and condoms (elf size, you know, if you’re into that sort of thing)
*Bribes. For the elves.

ALSO: Dress the hell up!
You don't have to dress as Santa proper. Variations of Santa-ness are deeply appreciated.
Variants of elves or reindeer or what-have-you are fine as well!
Don’t just wear a Santa hat!

This is a 21 and over event

If you are interested in helping out please contact me. I also have a flyer that can be printed out and handed out to perspective Santas. Just send me your real world email addy.
HO!

Moving to a Cooler Climate

I just checked the weather online and it appears that the tempreture in Jakarta, Indonesia -- where I'm moving to at the end of August -- is actually COOLER than it is in Louisville, Kentucky. It's so damn hot here in the Bluegrass, home of allergens and mold spores the size of wolverines, that pigeons are actually flying into local Kentucky Fried Chicken's to SURRENDER.

It's so hot Al Gore got an inconvenient rash.

Its so hot I actually saw a squirrel icing down his nuts.

Seriously, at this point we have heat indexes well over triple digits, and the pollution/ozone/crummy air indexes in the lethal range. It looks like its going to go on all month and won't change until I'm well on my way out of here...

I've been practicing and teaching Reiki since 1997, certified as a
into my work as a Certified Massage Therapist since 2002. I
currently practice Reiki and massage at Montpelier Family
Chiropractic in Montpelier Va: Reiki is a TeAte, or laying on of
hands healing technique. A Reiki therapist has been initiated
through a series of attunements to channel Ki for healing mind,
body, and Spirit. According to conventional Reiki theory, the
purpose of the attunements is to purify the healer's Ki so that it
vibrates at a higher frequency, that of the Spiritual Realm, in
order that healing can take place on a deeper than physical level.
Muscle Response Testing and Sclerology MRT is the testing of the
body's ability to respond to what is or is not in it's best
interest. Sclerology is the study of the whites of the eye and the
red lines that indicate the body's health stresses. They both go
well together and I would be honored to make this presentation as it
relates to the proper use of natural remedies. You can count on a
Joy is a licensed esthetician in the state of Ohio. She first became
interested in the cosmetic properties of the essential oils in many
of her facial and body treatment services. She was introduced to the
therapeutic properties in November of 1999, and has been "hooked"
ever since. Joy has traveled throughout the country studying the
therapeutic value of essential oils, and has utilized them in a
practical application to resolve her own personal challenges, as
well as those of friends and acquaintances. Her lecture schedule
includes such fascinating topics as "The Healing Oils of Scripture"
and "Aromotherapy Basics". She also provides hands-on coaching for
Raindrop Therapy and Vita Flex techniques. Joy has a wealth of
information to share!

About Drummer - Bob Laake at http://www.drumsforhealing.com Bob is a
childhood when he would drum on anything that would make a sound.
He's played with many local bands in practically every style of
music. However, it wasn't until he was diagnosed with stomach cancer
that he discovered the power of the drum as a healing tool. He is
now in total remission and is a protégé of Toby Christensen, and is

FULL MOON DRUM CIRCLE

Busy lives disconnect us from our natural rhythms. A clock wakes us
with alarms. Artifical light alters our mood. A schedule determines
when we eat, though we may not be hungry. When do we notice the
sweet scent on the wind to herald the changing seasons? Bring
yourself full circle to connect to earth, community, and
spirituality. This full moon drumming needs drummers. Join us as we re-establish our connections to
the earth and the heavens with celebrations of earth-centered
spirituality.

This may seem silly to most people but, I need to know how much stuff costs.
I really have no idea what stuff costs. When I left the hospital I had several people who volunteered to do my shopping for me ,and then would tell me it cost them 3 thousand dollars for groceries for the week. This went on for several months ,till my doctor told me they were taking advantage of me.I think I have a good idea now what things cost ,but I just found out that there are differences in cost from one region to another.
I need a basic idea of what it cost to live in Kentucky, how much a typical 3 bedroom house cost, utilities, how much to pay a maid for daily service, how much to pay a shopper,I'm also looking at hiring a personal chef

hey, just wanted to remind everyone of the after dinner downtown saturdays in paducah. Tons of fun stuff to watch (Including my belly dance class performing on 4th street!) and most of the stores stay open later so people can shop and explore the downtown area. :)

Is there anyone in the Larue, Nelson, or Hardin county area that spins fire poi?

I am a masterless fire poi enthusiast with my only source being this dial-up connection that always takes forever to load the freakin' moves, not to mention my computer area is hardly the space to practice poi. I saw fire poi dancers at a festival and knew it was for me. I have done decent on my own, just wondering how folks in the surrounding counties became inspired to poi and how they learned.

Hi all. My in-laws (both sides) have lived here for years...generations. I've been here for a couple of months. Used to city living. Kind of glad to be in the country but it takes some adjustment, KWIM?

DH and I have 3 kids and 6 dogs. Had been homeschooling but two older kids (boys 9 and 7) are now in public school. Still getting my feet wet here. :)

Fuel mileage vs gas prices

Has anyone else noticed a drastic decline in their fuel milage since gas prices have gone down? Also, what's up with the fuel prices? Traditionally the three grades have always been separated by a dime. Now the T-Mart around the corner from my house has Premium @ 2.41, Midgrade @ 2.23, and Ulneaded @ 1.98. I think they're thinning the gas out to lower prices.I usually get over 500 miles to a tank of gas, but since the fule prices have gone down a few weeks ago, I'm getting about 370 miles to a tank. My wife's car has declined also.

Favorite Movie Quotes

My favorite movie quote says a lot about my sense of humor. It's from National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. When Eddie is in front of the house emptying the waste from the motor home, he looks over the the snootie neighbors and says "Mornin! Shitter's full!" I fall off the couch laughing every time I watch that scene.

Want to say hello to all in Kentucky. I have lived in "Pennsyltucky" my whole life, however have spent much time over the years in Louisville at the World's Championship Horse Show and at the Red Mile in Lexington at the Junior League Horse Show. The horse trainer I worked for for 12 years finally was able to move to Harrodsburg a year or so ago, so I will be visiting KY sometime soon I hope. Kentucky is by far the best state I've ever been in. I love the state. No other state quite so beautiful or has horses as good.

So hi Ya'll!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My memories are of summer nights with lightning bugs, building playhouses out of hay bales with my father and late night bullfrog hunting. I have lived in many states but none come close to the beauty or hospitality of the people than the state of Kentucky.

Kentucky earthquake faultline

3 paragraphs that are really interesting about our faultline!

The New Madrid fault line is located in the central United States. It covers parts of Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, Tennessee, and Arkansas. It was formed 550,000,000 years ago when North America began to split apart. It never completely split apart, but it left a break called Reelfoot Rift, which is a weak spot in the earth's crust. Much of the soil in this area is loose and wet because it is near the Mississippi River. This makes it more likely that the ground will shake violently and have a lot of movement during an earthquake.

Between December of 1811 and February of 1812, there was a series of earthquakes around New Madrid, Missouri. These earthquakes caused damage over 50,000 square miles. The tremors could be felt for 1,000,000 square miles, all the way from the Gulf of Mexico to Canada. These earthquakes changed the course of some rivers and streams, and made new lakes. They also destroyed whole forests full of trees.

One weird event that happened was that the Mississippi River flowed backwards. A boat called the New Orleans was sailing down the river when one of the earthquakes caused a huge wall of mud across the river. Suddenly a huge wave came up the river the wrong way and smashed into the boat. The crew lived to tell the people what had happened. The earthquakes measured from 7.6 to 7.9 on the Richter scale, which measures earthquake intensity.

This is an important fault line because a large earthquake there could affect the whole United States. There are also a lot of chemical companies located near this fault today. If these buildings were damaged, it could release poisonous chemicals into the air and water supply. There is a 50% chance that an earthquake measuring 6.0 or more could occur by the end of this year and a 90% chance by the year 2040.
